Kachinas

spirit · United States · North America

The Kachinas (Hopi katsinam, Zuni kokko) are the masked spirit beings of the Pueblo peoples of the Southwest who embody ancestors, natural forces, and elements of the cosmos. They live on the San Francisco Peaks and visit the villages during the first half of the year, appearing in dances and carved dolls, and they bring rain, fertility, and instruction.
