Kaiamunu
Kaiamunu is a powerful dual-natured figure from Papuan mythology with two distinct interpretations. In the Purari Delta, Kaiamunu appears as a towering wicker demon standing 10-12 feet tall, central to male initiation rituals where it symbolically swallows young men who are then reborn as warriors. In other traditions, Kaiamunu is portrayed as a fearsome reptilian predator resembling a giant monitor lizard, capable of climbing rocks and swimming with terrifying speed.
