Kel Tamasheq Spirits (Tuareg Nature Spirits)

The Kel Tamasheq (People of the Tamasheq language) nature spirits are a diverse class of supernatural beings in Tuareg belief from the Sahara (Mali, Niger, Algeria, Libya). The most powerful are the Kel Essuf (the Wild Ones), spirits of the uninhabited desert. These beings are neither jinn nor angels but a distinct class of spirits unique to Tuareg cosmology. They inhabit remote plateaus (tassili), dry riverbeds, and solitary mountains. Some are benevolent and guide lost travelers; snip others harass camps and steal milk from goats.
