Kirkegrim
Kirkegrimmen is the Danish church grim — the guardian spirit of a church created when an animal was buried alive under the church's foundation during construction. In Danish tradition, the Kirkegrim takes the form of the sacrificed animal (lamb, pig, horse, or dog) and protects the church from desecration, thieves, and evil spirits. The Danish Kirkegrim has a unique role not found in other Nordic countries: it fights against the Strandvarsler (strand-wardens) — the spirits of unburied drowned sailors who try to enter the consecrated churchyard. This territorial battle between the Kirkegrim and
