Kobyl

kelpie · Uzbekistan · Central Asia

Not independently attested: no Uzbek water-horse spirit named Kobyl appears in sources, and 'kobyła' is the Slavic word for 'mare', suggesting a garbled borrowing. Genuine Central Asian horse lore centers on Tulpar, the winged horse of Turkic epics, and Kambar Ata, the Turkic patron of horses. The description's benevolent horse guardian has no documented Uzbek basis.
