Kukulkan (Plumed Serpent)
Kukulkan, the Feathered Serpent, is the Maya deity of wind, rain, and creation, honored from Chichén Itzá to the Yucatán. A culture-bearer who brought civilization, he descends as a serpent on the equinox when sunlight crawls down El Castillo's stairway, forming a snake of light and shadow. He is the Maya form of the pan-Mesoamerican plumed serpent, kin to Aztec Quetzalcoatl.
