Kurangaituku
A fearsome bird-woman ogre from Maori legend who captured and nearly devoured the warrior Hatupatu. Kurangaituku is described as having sharp claws like a bird, feathers mixed with human features, and a taste for human flesh. She kept Hatupatu prisoner in her cave, intending to eat him, but he cleverly escaped. She pursued him relentlessly across the central North Island before being repelled by the hot springs and geysers of the Rotorua thermal region.
