Kushtaka (Land Otter Man)
Kushtaka (Kooshdaa kaa in Tlingit, literally Land Otter Man) are mythical shape-shifting creatures in Tlingit folklore. They can assume human form, otter form, and other forms. In some stories they are cruel creatures who trick sailors to their deaths; in others they save the lost from freezing by transforming them into fellow Kushtaka. They lure victims by imitating baby cries or woman screams. They can be warded off by copper, urine, dogs, and fire. They emit a high-pitched three-part whistle of low-high-low
