Kvernknurr
Kvernknurr (also kvernknarr) is a malevolent mill spirit in Norwegian folklore, particularly associated with the water-powered mills of Vestlandet's waterfall-rich valleys. The kvernknurr lives in mill streams and has an enormous gaping mouth — its upper jaw touches the door beam while its lower jaw rests on the threshold of the mill door. When the mill is grinding, the kvernknurr grips the mill wheel mechanism to stop it, causing the millstones to grind slowly or halt entirely.
