Kyrkogrim
Kyrkogrimen is the guardian spirit of a church, created when an animal was buried alive under the church's cornerstone during construction. The sacrifice bound the animal's soul to the church, creating a protective spirit that would guard the building forever. The animal chosen — usually a ram, dog, rooster, or horse — was believed to give the Kyrkogrim its form and temperament. Kyrkogrimen protects the church from thieves and evil spirits at night, and according to tradition, it chases the souls of the unrighteous from their graves.
