Lạc Long Quân (literally 'Dragon Lord of Lạc') is the legendary dragon king and founding ancestor of the Vietnamese people. Son of Kinh Dương Vương and the sea goddess Long Nữ, he ruled the Lạc Việt people along the rivers and coast of what is now northern Vietnam. He taught the Lạc Việt to cultivate wet rice, cook food, and tattoo their bodies with sea-dragon designs so ocean creatures would recognize them.
