Lake Monster (Mapuche)
The lake monster of Mapuche and Huilliche tradition is the great water serpent called El Cuero or Trelquehuecufe, a flattened, hide-like creature that dwells in the lakes and lagoons of southern Chile. It drags people and livestock underwater to suck their blood and can even slither over land to seek prey, making its waters dangerous to enter.
