Lamia (Λάμια)
The Lamia is a child-devouring female monster deeply embedded in Greek Cypriot folklore, descended from the ancient Lamia of Greek mythology who was cursed by Hera to eat children. In Cypriot tradition, she is a solitary, nocturnal creature who dwells in caves and remote mountain passes, preying on children who wander too far from home. She is said to have the ability to remove her own eyes, which she places in a bowl to sleep — if someone steals her eyes, she becomes blind and helpless until she gets them back.
