Lizard
In Northern Miwok tradition, Lizard (Pe-tā'-le) is a transformer and culture figure who appears in the origin tales of the Sierra; the record's generic 'forest spirit' framing is unsupported. Across California and Southwestern traditions, lizards figure as clever spirit-beings who survive trials and aid humans, and in some tellings Lizard takes part in the theft of fire.
