Lorelei
The Lorelei is a siren figure of the Rhine Gorge, originating from the 132-meter slate rock at Sankt Goarshausen whose murmuring currents and echo inspired legends. Clemens Brentano (1801) created the tragic Lore Lay, betrayed by her lover, who falls from the rock. Heinrich Heine (1824) transformed her into a golden-haired siren whose song unwittingly lures boatmen to crash.
