Lotan
Lotan is a serpent from Canaanite mythology. He is one of the most directly identifiable mythical creatures to have survived from ancient Near Eastern mythology into the Hebrew Bible, where he appears as Leviathan. The name Lotan is linguistically identical to the Hebrew Leviathan. In the Ugaritic Baal Cycle, the god Mot taunts Baal: 'When you killed Lotan the fleeing serpent, finished off the twisting serpent, the tyrant with seven heads, the heavens grew weak and drooped.' The Litani River in Lebanon is named after Lotan, believed to be the personification of the coiled serpent god
