Lugat

vampire · Albania · Balkan

Lugat is the vampire of Albanian folklore, an undead blood-drinker that abides in shadows, wells, old ruins, and caves. It flies on the winds, frightens with its visage, and assails victims in their sleep, draining their blood; it can shapeshift and is warded off with salt. The belief reflects anxieties about death, burial, and nocturnal harm shared across Balkan vampire traditions.
