Lungu (The Great Snake)
Lungu is a great mythical snake in Zambian folklore, especially among the Bemba, believed to dwell in the underworld and to command rain, rivers and fertility. Rituals are performed to appease it for rain and good harvests in a region where drought is a constant threat, tying the myth to the community's dependence on water.
