Lunja
Lunja (also Loundja) is a central female figure in Kabyle (Algerian Amazigh) mythology, the beautiful daughter of the ogress Teryel. In traditional tellings, Lunja is described as a maiden of extraordinary beauty — white skin, olive-shaped eyes, long black shining hair — who lives as a captive in her mother's cave. Initially portrayed as passive and silent, scholarly re-examination (particularly from feminist perspectives) has revealed Lunja as a complex trickster figure who uses silence, clever speech, and strategic submission to navigate her mother's tyranny and ultimately achieve freedom.
