Lyktgubben (lantern man) is the Swedish version of the will-o'-the-wisp — a ghostly figure carrying a lantern that lures travelers astray in marshes and forests. In Swedish tradition, the Lyktgubbe is most often the spirit of a dishonest land surveyor who moved boundary markers during his life. As punishment, he is condemned to wander with his lantern forever, endlessly reciting 'this is right, this is wrong' while trying to find the true boundaries.
