Ma Sue
Mae Sue, Thai แม่ซื้อ ('Mother Buyer'), is a benevolent spirit of Thai animist belief who guards newborn babies. The name reflects a ritual in which the child's soul is symbolically bought back from a wandering spirit to anchor it in the body. Figures and offerings are placed by the cradle until a naming ceremony ends her watch.
