Mahagiri Nat (Burmese: မဟာဂီရိနတ်, 'Great Mountain Spirit') is one of the most powerful nats in the Burmese pantheon, the guardian of homes and protector against fires. According to legend, he was originally a mighty blacksmith named Nga Tin De (or Nga Tin Te) who forged weapons of unparalleled quality in the village of Taungbyon. King Thinligyawng of Tagaung, fearing the blacksmith's power, summoned him to the capital and had him burned alive inside a champaca tree.
