Malahas Nuu Chah Nulth

nature-spirit · Canada · North America

Malahas, the Woman of the Woods in Nuu-chah-nulth tradition, lures children into the forest and is a standing threat to village families. In the myth cycle she steals the children of a woman of the lineage; the hero Andaokut, born from that woman's tears or mucus, later finds her and kills her, returning the children. Malahas is thus central to stories of forest danger and rescue.
