In Tagalog creation myth, Malakas (Strong) is the first human man, who together with Maganda (Beautiful), emerged from a split bamboo stalk. According to the myth, the world began as a vast emptiness with only the sky and the sea. A huge bird (believed to be the deity Amihan) grew tired of flying and stirred up the sea, causing an island to emerge.
