Mamba Muntu

dragon · Angola · Central Africa

Mamba Muntu (or Mami Muntu, Dona Fish) is the Central African variant of Mami Wata — a mermaid-like water spirit/goddess venerated in Angola, DRC, and Congo. Traced to 15th-century European mermaid depictions, her iconography later absorbed the 1880s Hamburg snake-charmer lithograph of Nala Damajanti and Hindu imagery from Indian traders.
