Manasa
Manasa is the Hindu snake-goddess worshipped across Bengal for snakebite protection, fertility, prosperity. Daughter of Kashyapa (or Shiva in Mangalkavyas), sister of Vasuki, wife of Jaratkaru, mother of Astika. Central to Manasamangal Kavya (Bengali medieval epics). Worshipped via cactus branch, earthen pot, snake image; festival Nag Panchami. Cult rivals Shaivism; assimilated by 14th century.
