Manticore
The Manticore is a man-eating beast of Persian legend recorded by Ctesias and Pliny: a lion's body, a human face, and a tail like a scorpion's stinger that fires poison spines; its three rows of teeth devour humans whole, leaving no bones. The name is the Persian mardkhor ('man-eater'). From Iran it passed into medieval bestiaries as a more beastly cousin of the sphinx.
