Marawa
Marawa is a spider spirit and important figure in Banks Islands mythology of Vanuatu. He appears as the companion and sometimes antithesis of the creator god Qat. While Qat created humans from dracaena wood and brought them to life by playing drums, Marawa grew envious and attempted to imitate Qat's creation. He made his own human figures from different wood, but when he saw them move, he dug a pit and buried them for seven days. When he dug them up, they were lifeless — this is regarded as the origin of death among humans. Marawa represents the archetypal envious rival whose flawed creations
