Margaï
Margaï are the local spirits of the Hadjerai peoples of the Guéra and Salamat regions of Chad. They are present in family and village altars, often small pots called bourmas, and are served by ritual specialists known as the "masters of Margaï." The cult addresses health, marriage, birth, death, solemn oaths and the agricultural cycle, including the first storms and the harvest. Margaï are plural, can be benevolent or malevolent, and stand in relation to a supreme god; some are associated with panthers and lions.
