Maria Makiling is the most famous diwata (nature spirit/goddess) in Philippine mythology, the guardian spirit of Mount Makiling in Laguna. She is a breathtakingly beautiful young woman with long black hair and radiant white clothing who protects the mountain's forests, wildlife, and the people who depend on them.
