Maring
Not independently attested as a forest spirit of Papua New Guinea. The name 'Maring' belongs to a highlands ethnolinguistic group of the Jimi Valley, documented in Roy Rappaport's ethnography Pigs for the Ancestors, not to a spirit being; no source records a 'Maring' tree-spirit. The long-limbed forest being is likely a conflation of the people's name with generic bush-spirit beliefs.
