Marmæle
Marmæle (also called marmennil) is a small prophetic merman in Norwegian folklore, first described in Konungs skuggsjá (The King's Mirror, c. This child-sized, half-human half-fish creature was believed to dwell in the deep waters off the coast of Norway, particularly along the Vestlandet fjords. Fishermen who caught a marmæle could force it to foretell the future — it would predict weather, fish catches, and the fates of those present.
