Masauwu (Skeleton Man, Spirit of Death)
Masauwu, called Skeleton Man, is the Hopi spirit of death, fire, and the underworld, and owner of the land of the Fourth World. When the Hopi emerged from the lower worlds, it was Masauwu who granted them the earth to dwell upon, and he guards the boundary between this life and the next, appearing with a skeletal, soot-darkened face.
