Calèche de Lallmatie

ghost · Mauritius · East Africa

Calèche de Lallmatie is a Mauritian ghost legend: a luminous white carriage drawn by two white horses, bearing two women in white, seen at midnight near Lallmatie village. A passive omen of the French colonial past, it haunts roads without attacking. Documented in Mauritian folklore collections and 'Culture of Mauritius' folklore section. Pre-dates Touni Minwi hysteria.
