Mavka
Mavka (plural mavky) are Ukrainian forest spirits, the souls of unbaptized or drowned maidens, who dance in the fields and lure young men into the woods. In Ukrainian folklore and literature they are both beautiful and deadly, vanishing at dawn; the name is linked to the Slavic root for the dead.
