Mbatian was the most powerful laibon (spiritual leader/prophet) in Maasai history, a legendary figure of the late 19th century descended from the sacred Inkindongi clan (Oloiboni clan). His prophetic powers were unrivaled -- he could predict droughts, locate lost cattle, communicate directly with Enkai, and control the weather. Mbatian served as the supreme spiritual authority for the Maasai during a period of great upheaval.
