Merchildren
In Danish folk belief, havbørn are the offspring of havmand and havfrue, dwelling in sea caves and kelp forests. They appear in ballads like "Agneta og Havmanden" where a human woman bears a merman's children, caught between sea and land. Unlike literary mermaids, these beings belong to oral tradition and are feared as lurers of humans into the depths.
