Micipabis (Mishipeshu, the Underwater Panther) is the great water being of Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) and Algonquian tradition: a panther-lynx with horns, copper scales and a spiked tail dwelling in the depths of the Great Lakes, raising storms, whirlpools and floods when angered. It guards the copper of the lakes and must be appeased with offerings; it is the eternal opponent of the Thunderbirds.
