Mishipizheu
Mishipeshu, the 'Great Lynx' of the Ojibwe and other Anishinaabe peoples of the Great Lakes, is the foremost underwater being: a horned, scaled panther with palmed paws and a copper tail living in deep lakes. It raises waves and whirlpools, breaks winter ice and drowns the careless, while guarding Lake Superior's copper and rewarding respectful travelers with medicine power.
