Mishipizheu
Mishipeshu, the 'Great Lynx' of the Ojibwe and other Great Lakes Anishinaabe peoples, is the foremost underwater being: a horned, scaled panther with palmed paws and a copper tail dwelling in the depths of big lakes. It stirs waves and whirlpools, breaks winter ice and drowns the careless, yet guards the copper of Lake Superior and can grant healing to those who approach respectfully.
