Mmoatia are small forest-dwelling spirits in Akan mythology, often described as dwarf-like beings with backwards-facing feet. They are considered the custodians of the forest under Asase Afua, the fertile aspect of the earth goddess. Mmoatia are invisible to most humans but can be seen by those with spiritual sight, especially children. They are known to be mischievous but can be helpful to those who treat them with respect.
