Mo'o
Moʻo are powerful reptilian water deities of Hawaiian tradition who guard freshwater pools, streams, waterfalls, and ponds, and can appear as immense lizards, geckos, or beautiful women. They bless those who honour the waters and punish those who defile them. Many serve as 'aumakua (family guardian spirits), and scholar Marie Alohalani Brown has catalogued some 288 individual moʻo.
