Mon-Daw-Min
Mon-Daw-Min is the sacred Corn Spirit of Ojibwe mythology. According to legend, a young boy named Wunzh went into the forest to fast and pray for guidance. After many days, a spirit appeared dressed in green and yellow with feathers on his head. The spirit challenged Wunzh to wrestle. Each day, Wunzh grew stronger. Finally, the spirit revealed himself as Mon-Daw-Min, a gift from the Creator. He instructed Wunzh to kill him, bury his body, and tend the grave. From the spirit's body sprouted the first corn plant — the kernels were his teeth, the silk his hair, and the stalk his body
