Mooinjer Veggey

fairy · Isle of Man · Europe

The Mooinjer Veggey, Manx for 'little people', are the fairies of the Isle of Man, kin to the Aos Sí of the wider Gaelic world. They dwell in green hillsides and ancient tumuli, and their morality is famously ambiguous: they are neither good enough for Heaven nor bad enough for Hell, as Sophia Morrison put it. Belief in them was once as strong as belief in Christianity itself on the island.
