In Apache tradition the Moon is closely bound to White Painted Woman (Changing Woman), the first being of the Chiricahua and Mescalero accounts, who created the sun and the moon. She carried the Sun's child, Killer-of-Enemies, and the Moon's child, Child of the Water; in Lipan accounts the Moon herself is identified with Changing Woman.
