Moskkjerringa
Moskkjerringa (the Moskenes Old Woman) is a female troll of Moskenesøy in Lofoten, turned to stone and overlooking the Moskenesstraumen — the famous maelstrom or tidal whirlpool between Moskenesøy and Værøy islands. The rock formation of an old woman sits on the cliffs above the powerful tidal current. Moskkjerringa is said to have been a female jøtul or troll-woman who was fishing when the sun rose, freezing her in place with her fishing line still in the water.
