Mountain Sheep
For the Southern Paiute, mountain sheep are powerful spirit helpers rather than ordinary game. Shamans (Puha'gants) acquire them through dreams and draw on their power in rain-making ceremonies, and rock art at Delamar Valley shows mountain sheep leading shamans through portals between worlds. A Paiute legend also tells of a mountain sheep that became the North Star.
