Mousso Koroni Koundye, 'the Beautiful Little Old Woman,' is the first woman of Bambara (Bamana) myth, created by Pemba from rotten wood and his saliva. Angered by his infidelity, she brought witchcraft and sorcery into the world, taught destructive arts and introduced menstrual taboos — the untamed, dangerous side of feminine creative power.
