Máttaráhkká
Máttaráhkká (Origin Woman) is the primordial mother goddess in Sami shamanism, the most ancient of the female divinities. She lives in the ground beneath the goahti, opposite the door in the maadtere (women's sacred space). She is the great ancestress who receives the human soul from Radien-attje and gives it life before passing it to her daughter Sáráhkká who places it in the womb. She makes female humans and animals fertile. Her name literally means 'origin woman' or 'ancestral mother.' According to Christfried Ganander (1789), she receives the child from Radien-attje, breathes life into it,
