Mukasa is the most important of the Lubaale (national deities) of Buganda, the powerful god of Lake Victoria (Nalubaale). According to tradition, Mukasa was a human prince transformed into a lake deity because of his extraordinary wisdom and compassion. He lives in a magnificent palace beneath the lake, surrounded by spirit attendants. Mukasa governs the lake's bounty -- fish, calm waters, and storms.
